One of the side projects I worked on throughout the summer and into the fall was the GeoGames application for Reach the World, working directly with the people at Dangerous Media.
Although the GeoGames project isn’t quite yet live on Reach the World, it has been posted on Dangerous Media’s showcase, so I can finally show it off.

It uses some pretty fancy displacement mapping to create a 3D globe, which you can rotate in real time. Drag and drop continents, rivers, mountains, countries and their capitals.
I have to tell you, I learned a LOT about physical and political geography doing this program! Where are the Atlas mountains? the Irtysh River? Quick, what’s the capital of Mongolia? I know!
Do you have a direct link to the GeoGames? I can’t seem to find it in the showcase. 🙂
Ah. Silly me. Forgot the link!

cool, I just built the earth, I think a 5 grader could have done it faster… I didn’t know I could rotate the Earth 🙂
Thanks 😀
That’s really awesome 😀 I went through all of it and it was really nice, it’s like you created an interactive mini Google Earth 😉 It’s also quite educationa…OH NOES! *goes to watch TV* 😀
I learned that I always wrote “Appalachian” writing in English. Now I know that I have to write it
without the “h”. Nice cool stuf
Slick effect when you rotate the earth. Nice project.
The dangerous media server is asking for a password. can’t seem to get to the application.
