Yahoo! Maps Mashups

My good friend and former coworker, Chuck Freedman, moved out to San Jose last year to join the Yahoo maps team as Senior Flash/Flex Developer. He’s just released his first book, Yahoo! Maps Mashups.

Yahoo! Maps Mashups

Looks like a pretty cool list of topics:

  • Exploring map features such as panning and zooming, widgets, markers, overlays and geocoding.
  • Learning Mashup fundamentals including REST, XML and popular map-friendly web services.
  • Developing tight and efficient Mashups with the AJAX API
  • Enriching the Mashup experience with the JavaScript-Flash API
  • Creative and customized Mashups with the Actionscript-Flash API
  • Enterprise level data-driven Mashups with the Flex API
  • 4 fully implemented and guided mashups featuring Flickr, HotJobs, Upcoming.org, real-time weather, traffic, video and more!

Of course, I’m a bit jealous that he got his picture on the cover of his book, and I just got a wireframe honey bee on mine. Oh well, I suppose the lack of my picture on the cover contributed to the book’s sales.

  1. Sweet, I’ll have to pick that one up. I’ve got a project coming up that needs alot of map integration. Thanks!

I posted an example of how to get the current Yahoo! Maps Flash API to work in Flex 2 / AS3.

Congratulations on the launch of your first book, Chuck! I plan to skip all the AJAX parts (because that spaghetti is too tough to chew) but I am sure the rest of it will be wildly entertaining and valuable. 😉
