Time to move to Boston?

Boston is quickly becoming the place to be, for Flash/Flex developers anyway. We’ve already started a trend with our Flash Platform User Group, and Flash Platform Design Patterns Group (same link), which are pulling in guest speakers like John Grden from Florida (I’m not sure what to link him to, he’s involved with so many projects), and Ted Patrick, Flex Evangelist, from Adobe headquarters. These things are becoming like mini Flash conferences – twice a month.

And maybe not many people know this, but the Boston area got a recent addition of Flash celebrity action: Joey Lott has moved in and set up shop here. He was at our Design Patterns meeting last night, and we will probably be roping him in to speak at the user group in coming months.

Unless you happen to live closer to London, I’d say Boston is the place to check out.

Not to mention that it has some of the best and varied collection of restaurants, coffe shops, and universities. Davis Square is one of my favorites, Union Square a close second.-e

Also, the Big Bad Bruins play there. I’m a Montreal Canadiens fan and flash developer. Go Habs Go!

The user group in Montreal is beginning in August. Maybe we can get ideas from other user groups so that we can do similar presentations?

  3. Hello,

Did you know that a lot of the Flash Platform is built in the Boston area too. Adobe has a team in Newton and we build large parts of the Flash Player, Compiler, Flash for Devices, and Flex Data Services here in Boston area too. If you want some folks from the dev team to speak at some point, let me know. (I am based in Boston too :).

David, yes, we’d love a speaker from Adobe at some point. Actually, as you might know, Ted Patrick is coming out next month to talk about Flex. And we had someone from there talk about Flex Data Services way back. It might be great to have someone talk about the player or compiler some time.

  5. I loved living in Boston. Unfortunately the Flash Platform group started just after I moved to Minneapolis. I hope to make it back to Boston more often in the future. Maybe I’ll coordinate my next visit to coincide with one of your user group meetings.

As someone who was born there, and up until November, lived there all my life, I can vouch for how great Boston is.

However, I am finding no shortage of Flash/Flex excitement and might in the SF/San Jose area where I live now.

If you like comfortable weather and don’t mind living in an apartment the rest of your life, this is a very nice place!
