Brevity News: Limited public release this week

I made a lot of progress on the Brevity IDE and parser this week.

Lots of details and screenshots here.

It’s all coming together really well. The IDE and parser are both compiled to native Windows executables now (no need for Python to be installed), and I even figured out how to embed ActiveX in the program, so the compiled SWF can be launched right in a tab in the interface. A few things to clean up, and then I’ll let a chosen few start playing with it.

The main work at that point will be writing the Brevity Framework – the ActionScript classes that will make doing all the cool stuff look easy!

I have to say, this project is really exciting for me, personally. Probably the most exciting personal project I’ve done in a long time, if not ever. I hope others find it as useful (i.e. fun) as I envision it will be.

Brevity does look like a really good project, I would love to be considered for that limited public release. I have a passion for creating visual effects in Flash and it would be fantastic to leverage the power of Brevity and AS3 to push the envelope.

  3. I have been playing around a lot with AS3 and was looking for good ide to work with the command line tools. I would love to be a part of the limited public release.

    Keith,

I’d love to help out too, either testing or if you could portion of some development work. Give me an email.

sounds great, if ever there’s extra space on the list, i’d be glad
    too try & help

  6. Sounds awesome! When’s the Mac version coming. 😉

  7. kp says:

Theoretically, the mac version should work right off the bat. Python is cross platform, and wxPython is supposed to be. When I get a minute, I’ll throw it over to the Mini and check it out.

  8. Beautiful. Nice to hear. I’m looking forwards to checking it out. Let me know if you need any input/feedback for the base classes.

Will you consider an osx version or is it impossible at this stage ?
    Best luck.

In quality of Processing user I just remind you how painful could be a simple text editor for writing code, also if only for sketches, so if embedding a proper TextEditor with code hint it’s an issue I remind you to consider the “external editor” option that processing has. And possibly to have it as fast option to select(like p5 used to have, now it’s a bit annoying since it’s in global settings, before was accessible quickly from the top menu).

    Best of luck!

Played a bit with OSX and it doesn’t look like it’s going to be difficult to get that running.

Yes, you’ll be able to use the IDE, or any other editor.
