NetVibes (and Google Calendar)

I hesitated being the umpteenth person to mention Google Calendar today, but I thought it’s worth mentioning that it integrates pretty nicely with NetVibes iCal module. If you go into your Google Calendar Settings / Calendars, and click on your calendar, you will get RSS and ICAL links to your public and private calendars. Use the private calendar link, copy and paste it into the URL field of the iCal module in NetVibes. The only thing is that even if your calendar is private, you have to mark each event as public, otherwise it shows up as **PRIVATE** in NetVibes. I still haven’t figured out all the implications of this, but if someone finds out that my Computer Science class is at 9:00 am Saturday morning, or that my flight to FiTC leaves at 11:10 am next Thursday, I can live with that for now. I’ll just leave off the more … um … sensitive items. 🙂

But hopefully that will get fixed one way or the other. I’m not sure if the issue is how Google is formatting the data or how NetVibes is reading it, but I’m sure they’ll get it sorted out eventually.

Well it looks like the private thing is an issue with the iCal module in Netvibes. That’s a good thing, because it can probably be fixed more quickly.

    Per comment #82 here:

The full data is coming through, just with a private class. So the module just needs to be updated to read that correctly. Yay.

Update: Looks like they got the **PRIVATE** thing fixed. Go netvibes!!!
