I was just informed that my book, Foundation ActionScript Animation: Making Things Move!, has sold its first printing, and they are beginning a second run. I find that pretty amazing that it’s hit that point after just two and a half months. I guess people like it.
This does give me a chance to make any minor changes. I know of a few typos. If anyone has spotted any, let me know quick so I can get them in there.
Keith,
I got this book for Christmas and I love it. I took a hiatus from Flash due to the fact that my job doesn’t do much Flash work and I was learning CFMX at the time. But for as long as I can remember, I’ve always wanted to know the formulas for making the most abstract Flash animations to just simple scripted animations. The problem was that there wasn’t a complete resource out there for this and you’ve answered my (and it looks like everyone else’s) prayers with this book. I’ve followed your blog and other’s (e.g. Grant Skinner) and I hope to create some great things thanks to your book. I hope you continue to write more books on this topic.
“The problem was that there wasn’t a complete resource out there for this…”
Well, that was my vision for the book. I had scraped up data from all over the place over the years, and it just seemed like someone should put it all together in one place.
Hi Keith,
Your book is amazing, it’s a must-have of every Flash Developer 😀
One of my co-worker ordered too.
Wow! Congrats man! I knew you where working on it but didn’t know it was out. I’ll have to wait for the second edition I guess. =)

I don’t think it’s a “no more on the shelves” situation, but the publisher needs to print more. Amazon has them in stock.
I have been thinking about a project for the last three months that I knew was perfect for Flash, but had no notion on how to do it. I’ve only used Flashy a few times to create some pretty basic web sites with animated menus and page transitions. That’s it. And that was three years ago.
So, I knew Flash was the right tool. However, finding info on dynamic animations was beginning to look hopeless. And, since I’m not a Flash wiz, I don’t really know anybody that would be able to answer the questions I had. I didn’t even know that what I was looking for was actionscripted animation. I just knew it as slick praystation type stuff (sorry, I didn’t learn about you until today when I went to B&N for some Flash refresher materials.
Your book is perfect. I would have wasted a lot of time trying to figure out how to do what I see in my mind with tweening and actionscript. I can see now that it would never have worked. A review of your book stated that you may have gone into a little too much detail that a actionscripter would already know. Ignore that comment from whoever made it. The book is perfect for me and anyone else who doesn’t live with actionscript all day.
Know anybody in the LA area who would be interested in working on a neat project that would start paying after a simple UI prototype was done? Just some animations of how the app would work, not actual interactivity. If you know of anyone, please pass my email address along to them.
