[Edit: as of today (July 26), the app is now available in the app store. Get it here.]
The latest iPhone app / game from Wicked Pissah is Wire Draw.
This app lets you draw lines and shapes in 3D. Alter line width and color. Rotate your drawing around in 3d using the device’s accelerometer. Even draw while rotating.
Fog features provides atmospheric effects where lines further from the camera fade out. Fog is adjustable in the settings for anything from a serious pea soup to barely perceptible.
An on screen grid can be toggled on or off to help you draw.
Finally, you can save your images to the iPhone and pull them up again to show your friends.
The app is completely free. Kids love it. My 6 year old daughter stole my phone for an hour when she discovered it. The app was submitted a week ago today. Currently, Apple is taking close to 2 weeks on the approval process, so it should be out some time in the coming week.
That is quite excellent! 🙂
Wow! I’m really impressed with your app. The first 30 seconds of the youtube demo i thought ‘omg, a line drawing editor… Boring’, but when i saw the 3D option and the drawn dude i discovered i was totally wrong 🙂
This app really rocks. Me and my friends wanna have this app to share our own dudes via mms/email/wifi or what ever 😉
This app is hilarious. I vote for it.
That is excellent! I am looking forward to seeing it on the iPhone! Highly creative:)
So it’s like Rhonda for iPhone?
Scott: Actually, I first saw James Paterson demonstrate Rhonda back in 2004 and I can’t say there wasn’t some inspiration there. I’ve done numerous versions of this in Flash over the years.
But Rhonda is a much more robust tool that does a whole lot more – moving in and out, zooming, showing the current drawing plane and allowing you to join lines at a specific point, rotated in multiple dimensions, etc. Wire Draw is a fun toy. You basically draw on a cylinder that can rotate on one axis. But you also have selectable line width and color and programable fog. Also, you won’t have to wait 5 years to play with Wire Draw. 🙂
Nice! Can you vary the canvas cylinder radius btw? It seems from your demo that there is some variation there (some depth of lines wrt each other) – maybe that is controlled by tilt as well?
Lars, when you draw, the z is constant, but the radius is the distance to the center of the cylinder. So if you draw in the center of the screen it has a slightly smaller radius than if you draw near the right or left edge of the screen.
@kp I see. Nice one!
