Feeling overly analytical this morning. Seems most avatars fall into these categories.
- Picture of yourself.
- Caricature / stylized picture of yourself.
- Picture of yourself as a kid.
- Picture of your kid(s).
- Picture of you with your kid(s)
- Picture of you with your spouse/significant other.
- Picture of you with your whole family.
- Picture of you with a friend(s).
- Picture of you with some hot babe(s) at a club.
- Picture of your pet(s).
- Picture of your car/bike/house/etc.
- Picture of a character from a current tv show.
- Picture of a character from some old tv show.
- Picture of a character from a recent movie.
- Picture of a character from some old movie.
- Picture of a character from a video game.
- Picture of a character from a comic book/graphic novel/anime/manga.
- Picture of some celebrity/polititian/etc.
- Some random picture you found on the internet.
- Some abstract image or piece of art.
- Default “I didn’t upload a picture yet” image.
I tend to go with #1 or #19, occasionally #20. But every once in a while I go #13 and pull out the Sleestak avatar. 🙂
22. Picture of your brand/logo
I have analysed your analysis and determined that you could have consolidated 1 – 8,10 into ‘A picture/illustration of you or your family and/or friends’ and 12 – 18 to ‘Picture/illustration of a famous character’…
hell, i could have consolidated them all into “a picture of something and/or nothing”
🙂
You forgot the “custom personal logotype” that us designer types like to use.
That’s enumerative, not analytical. I feel FOOLED by your adjective.
You just about described every type of image there is. Well kind of. lol
#19. But usually I make it myself…
Keith this is the most awesome laugh out loud post you’ve ever made! I’ve thought about categorizing avatars for a long time, especially since I’ve been dealing with hundreds of thousands of Etsy avatars for some time now. You’ve totally nailed it (of course No.20 should be like No.2 from my perspective). You will forever be legendary in my world.
Jared, I’m glad someone appreciated my … whatever it is that makes me categorize avatars. 🙂
