25 Lines Finalists are up!

Seems like the word is spreading pretty well by itself, but I should mention it here anyway…

The judges have picked their favorites and we came up with not 10, but 12 finalists. The stuff that was created is pretty amazing, and when you realize that each entry consists of just 25 lines of ActionScript 3.0, it’s astounding.

You can see the finalists and vote for your favorite here:

I also urge you to take a look at the code itself. I learned a few things looking those over. I’m not saying they’re chock full of best coding practices, but you’re bound to see a few “oh…. I never thought of doing it that way” items.

I’m really happy that this contest has taken off as I expected. It’s a perfect antidote to the RIA-MXML-Design-Pattern-Forms-Layout-Transitions-DataProvider-Binding-UIComponent-Flex-Flex-Flex thing that Flash has turned into. At Flash Forward SF this past summer I gave a talk entitled “Putting the Flash back in Flash.” Actually, it was while preparing for that talk that I first came up with the idea of reviving the 25 lines contest. It took a while to get going, but it’s fantastic to see it going so well and people abusing the hell out of Flash. 🙂

I have to say, being able to create a fully working scrolling and top down shooting game in 25 lines is nothing short of genius.

These are all excellent, fantastic job contributors! You all deserve a big round of applause.

The Flash community never fails to impress!
