I just realized that I don’t think I’ve actually blogged about this.
Flash on Tap! is coming to Boston. October 7-9, 2008.
It all started over a year ago. We were in the bar after a user group meeting, talking about Flash conferences and drinking beer, and Chris Allen and Philip Desenne were talking about home brewing. And someone said something like, “we should do a Flash + Beer conference.” Everyone laughed. Then we stopped laughing and looked at each other. “Hmm… that’s not a bad idea.”
We had a few meetings about it, and nearly got it off the ground last summer, but it wound up just being too little too late. But we got it going for real this year. Have the venue booked, speakers confirmed, funding is occuring. I’m building the site.
The basic concept is that in most conferences, you go to the conference, and then go out drinking. We’re just going to kind of overlap those two activities a bit. There will be beer tasting in between sessions. Fine selections of different types of quality brews. And an awesome lineup of speakers. It’s amazing how much buzz has been generated about this already, and how many top name speakers are on board.
The full site should be up by the end of this week, and you’ll be able to buy tickets. The prices will be pretty reasonable, especially if you register early – early bird and super early bird. Schedule will be one day of workshops, opening party the first night. Then two days of main speaker tracks. We’re at the Park Plaza Castle, which is a pretty unique place. One thing is that they have one big room, a few mediums, and a lot of really small rooms. So it’s a challenge figuring out where to put all the speakers. But I think there will be quite a few smaller, more intimate sessions, “small talks” as we are calling them, mixed in with the bigger sessions.
See you all there!
I remember hearing about this last year and hoping it was real, now this year it is!! As soon as I see “Register Today” I will be doing just that.
Such a unique concept with a kick ass list of speakers to go with it.
putting the final touches on the site as we speak. 🙂
I gotta hand it to ya, I love the beer video in the background. I am sure it will garner a lot of interest. Especially, for a few people here I know in Montreal.
If there were a HABs / Bruins game around that time. That would sweeten the pot!
😀
This ones gonna be fun to prepare for. I start my beer training next week.
