Last week I pulled the trigger and clicked the “Protect my updates” box on the Twitter settings page. This means that unless I am following you, or specifically let you follow me, you won’t get my twitter updates.
I did this when I realized I had something like 448 “followers”. Now, I may be popular, but I’m thinking some of those are fake. For instance, BestPornSites, FeedMeLinks, Twittter_Dating are probably not real people who are interested in what I’m doing. There are dozens and dozens of obvious ones like these. And others, like chicka89 are pretty dubious. A lot more may be real people, but may not. I have no idea. Anyway, with Twitter struggling as it is, I figure if I cut down the amount of updates they have to send out for me to a tenth of what it was, that’s gotta help, right? If everyone did that, it should reduce the load. Actually, I have no idea if that would help the specific load problem Twitter is having, but I’m just going with it.
If you were getting my tweets and you are now not, and you are really upset about this, sorry. You can always email me and beg to be put on my special list. But come on, I’m really not so interesting that you should be getting that upset in the first place. 🙂
Hello Keith.
I would like to say that, as a follower (who has asked to keep following you but I didn’t get any response) , I can still read your tweets with twhirl (but not in Safari ) so you might want to have a look on this..
I can also still read your tweets with PocketTwitter on the iPhone, so, uh, I don’t know… don’t say anything bad about me or I’ll know…? Heh.
hmm… i don’t know how it works. i just clicked the box. 🙂
Would love to go, but £399 per ticket? I could only get one day out of the studio to go (probably like most people), so why is there not a 1 day ticket – and it would have to be at a serious discount too!
Me thinks Seb hath commented on the wrong post. 🙂

Hey Keith. Same for Netvibes or and other widget… seems your xml feed from twitter can’t be locked down so any feed reader can still see you, they only control it on their own page it seems. Can’t hide from me. 🙂
