Hair v2

I was talking with John Grden after he saw my hair and we got on the topic of how sometimes you do something and everyone is saying how awesome it is, but as the creator, you can see every fault, and it looks like crap to you. Some stuff about the first version of this really bugged me, so I made a few changes. This one is much better, I think.

ps. if you are viewing it on the main index page of the blog, you might want to click on the title of the post so only this post is showing in the browser. Will probably speed things up a bit, compared to multiple Flash movies playing on the same page.

Looking good. With the last version, it felt like the hair was anchored somehow at the bottom, but this is much more dynamic and flowing.

Josh, yes, that’s exactly what bugged me. 🙂

  3. John Grden says:

now THIS is hair! hair that needs to be washed, but hair!

    Nice keith.

  5. Pete says:

Why is the length of the hair changing?

  6. Mr.doob says:

    It’s the perspective… er.. yeah?

  7. Jolyon says:

That’s pretty sweet. Presumably you’re using multiple short lines to create the curves as supposed to overly complex curveTo’s.

If you are it would look even better if you could apply the drop shadow on a per lineTo basis, that way when the hair flies towards the user it would have added perspective as the drop shadow fades away.

    Just a thought, great work!

    That is one sweet mullet!

…erm… it is a mullet right? right?!

  9. I also see that the hair now is properly anchored at the top. In the previous version you were able to get some white space between the top of the Flash movie and the hair ends.

Fun to play with… giving me this weird craving to change the size of the ‘bubble of influence’ around the mouse

I tried to make one by myself:
    http://www.nicolamarini.it/Art/Hairs/Hairs.html
this is in flash 8 and as2.
There are 40 hairs with 4 “node” each one.
Move the mouse on the hairs and press space barr to change length and
    color of the hairs.
Well … nice but not so speedy like the as3.

Nice work K. very fluent. 🙂
