As mentioned, I’ll be doing a workshop at the upcoming Flash on Tap conference here in Boston. The name of the workshop is “From Flash to iPhone”, which gives you a pretty good idea what we are going to cover. I’m pretty psyched for this. I’ve done some 2-3 hour workshops, but this is a FULL DAY. Lots of time to get into a lot of details and help people out individually.

I’m doing a session – Playing With Chaos, and a full day workshop – From Flash to iPhone.
It’s going to be a fun week in Boston. Looking forward to seeing my international friends in my home town, and lots of high quality beverages!
Hope to see you there!

So a week or so ago he got me a script and an example video of him reading the script. I realized at that point I wasn’t really up to acting in a Phillip-caliber production. He insisted, I gave it a couple of takes and verified that this wasn’t something I was going to pull off. He begged, I refused.

A few updates…
First, some personal background info. To get to work each day, I take a train and a bus. Now that the weather is half decent, I walk to the train station in the morning. It’s just about 1 mile. When I was younger and used to read a lot more, I’d get so into a book that I’d read while walking. Geeky, I know. But the Kindle is perfect for this. One of the tough parts of reading while walking is … well, reading while the book is bouncing up and down in your hand. With the Kindle, you just bump up the font size to say the second largest, and no problem. Hell, if I went to the largest size, I could probably read while jogging. Hmm….

It looked pretty cool and they were offering them at a nice discount for the conference. So caught up in the warm and fuzzy iPhone atmosphere, I grabbed one. Basicallly, it’s a battery pack that you slide your iPhone / iPod Touch into and it powers and charges the device. Supposedly, when the charger itself is fully charged, it is capable of recharging your device 2-3 times.

But it seems like there is a bug with the draw method. I can’t seem to draw anything in it beyond 4096 pixels. Here’s an example:
[as][SWF(width=800, height=200, backgroundColor=0xffffff, frameRate=31)]
var bmpd:BitmapData = new BitmapData(8000, 2000, false, 0x00ffff);
var bmp:Bitmap = addChild(new Bitmap(bmpd)) as Bitmap;
bmp.width = 800;
bmp.height = 200;
Yay! My Kindle 2 arrived last night!
The two word review: LOVE IT!

First of all, to see why I bought a Kindle 2, read here: https://www.keithpeters.org/?p=165.
And, here’s all the pictures to go along with the words. Most of the shots were chosen to give an idea of the size and form factor of the device, since that’s one of the points I had a hard time determining before I got it.

Read more...I just got informed by MediaTemple that my GPUs are trending high. I have a vague idea what that means – basically that my site is using too many of MT’s gerbil wheels, and they are going to charge me a few cents if it goes over. They are projecting I’ll owe a grand total of 60 cents, so it’s not a huge deal. But I figured if I’m using that much power, it might be time to look at some optimization. A quick search led me to the wp-cache plugin, which I just installed.
