For you diehard PrimalScript users, or those thinking about switching, Sapien just got a much-needed website makeover. https://www.sapien.com Now you can get some official info on PS 4, due out “this fall”, as well as their other products.
There’s also a new forum up where you can ask questions, get support, etc. Previously they had a newsgroup server up, which was cool, but I prefer a forum setup more. From my experience on the newsgroup and on the PS 4 beta, I can tell you that they are very serious about hunting down and killing bugs and making the product the best it can be. I would say that there has been no less than a release per month on PS 3.1, with bug fixes and added features.

Up until about 8 months ago, I always only had a single desktop pc. At the end of last year, I treated myself to a new Toshiba laptop for Christmas. It quickly took over and became my main machine.
Then a few months ago I came into possession of a Mac mini. I did the whole KVM switch thing, but that didn’t ever thrill me so I ended up giving my desktop pc and mac mini each their own monitor, keyboard and mouse.

In fact, there are tons of examples out there of Flash 8 new feature content produced without the new Flash IDE. If we can do all this now, why would anyone go buy the new IDE, some people think.
Read more...I’ve blogged a bit about PrimalScript 4.0. I was hoping to say more. It will be released in August (yup, just next month). PrimalScript will come in three flavors: Standard, Professional and Enterprise. Standard of course is the bare bones editor. Some highlights of Professional are “PrimalDiff” visual file compare, a database explorer and FTP explorer. Enterprise has even more goodies like .NET language support, and a graphical XML editor.

What we really need right now is someone with some decent knowledge in AS1, particularly doing OOP in AS1. The candidate wouldn’t have to be the world’s foremost authority on the subject, just be able to get started on his/her own. Far more importantly would be an enthusiasm for Flash and for learning and improving. If you spend half your day reading Flash forums, blogs and mailing lists, 10 points. If you’ve had more than one fight with your spouse/significant other about whether they are more important than Flash, 10 more points. (If you won the argument and managed not to break up, 20 points.)

I got back Saturday afternoon, but had some debts to handle for being away so long – like taking my wife shopping and taking my daughter to the park. Sunday I woke up with a fever and was out of commission all day. Not sure I’m over it, but it’s back to work anyway.
My presentation on Forward and Inverse Kinematics went pretty well, despite Flash crashing once and my wife calling me on my cell phone in the middle of it. The notes are at https://www.bit-101.com/ffnyc05.

This swf has been blogged all over the place, and always links to the chilloutzone site, which gives no attribution at all to the original author.
Love it or hate it, now you know who did it! Personally, I think it’s a technically awesome piece of work.

Anyone know if they’re planning another one this year?
Read more...No, this is not yet another post about that poor lady falling endlessly on those spheres (though that is a great file)! It’s not about ICE (although Stuart is one of my heros). And it’s not even about flade. (A lot of IK news these days, eh?)
It’s to remind everybody that I’ll be speaking at Flash Forward in NYC next week, on the subject of Forward and Inverse Kinematics in Flash. I won’t be able to get to anything as complicated as falling woman in just under an hour, but I do have some pretty damn cool examples in mind, with concepts and code to back them up.

F11 full screen, and learn the keyboard shortcuts for navigation, and you will be hooked.
Here’s a little demo I recorded. Note, this has a lot of compression artifacts. The app is much clearer and smoother than this.
