Gliffy: Flash-based UML Diagramming, and more

Just noticed this over at Simon Horwith’s Blog:

http://www.gliffy.com/

It’s a pretty robust on-line diagramming tool, all done in Flash. In addition to UML, it does flow charts, network, UI, and floor plan diagrams, as well as generic shapes and uploadable or searchable images. Your diagrams are saved on line in your free account. You can print them, publish them to the web, or export them as SVG, JPEG or PNG. It’s a pretty impressive RIA. And looks like it’s all Flash 7! Nice work.

  1. Chris Allen says:

That is pretty cool! I know that Grant Skinner built something like this for UML modeling a while ago: http://www.gskinner.com/gmodeler/

Anyway, it looks like Gliffy has a plugin for Confluence; we might have to get this for http://wiki.red5.org. I can see how that would be extremely useful for us.

    Thanks for sharing Keith.

  2. Interestingly enough, it is indeed Flash, at least in the delivery sense. It was made using OpenLaszlo however. Add in the fact that Pandora was also created on that platform and it gets you thinking that maybe there is a bit more to it. Anyways, things like fauxto were made on flex, so both platforms are having their capabilities tested , but I do like seeing that Adobe is starting to have some outside competition from both established players (Microsoft), and upstarts. In the end the developers are the ones who win.
