DS Lite – Pretty cool!

About a week ago I succumbed to my latest wave of TechnoLust and went out and bought a Nintendo DS Lite. With most things I buy in that state of mind, they are cool for a little while, maybe a few hours or a day or two, and then whatever. But I have to say that the DS has been holding my attention for a good eight days now. I stocked up on a good variety of games, Metroid, Brain Age, Burnout Ledgends, and Super Mario 64. This thing rocks! I can play Sudoku (Brain Age) standing up on the train, play the other games pretty much anywhere else. I just played my first wifi game of Metroid with some stranger who totally kicked my ass. Then I went on with Sam Robbins, and at least managed to kill him twice (he got me four times).

The graphics are unbelievable, and the DS Lite is known for its brightness, which is well deserved. I haven’t had a problem viewing it except in very bright summer sun. Battery life is awesome. It took a bit of fiddling with my home network settings to get the connection down just right, but no more than I’d expect for a device like that.

I’m really looking forward to the browser that is supposedly being made for it, and the tv tuner too (currently just Japanese “seg1” broadcasts. In the mean time, though, plenty of stuff to keep me entertained… not that I needed another distraction. 🙂

Yeah I hope they release the tv tuner over here. I’d love to watch the news on the way to work.

I’ve been loving my DS Lite as well – though most of it’s time has been spent either playing New Super Mario Bros, Tetris, or Advance Wars. (I’d definitely suggest you get those three.)

Also, if you guys are looking for another ass to kick in Metroid, let me know. I’d love to threaten you with my 1337 Metroid skillz, but once that game started, you’d know I was full of it.

Yeah, I have a DS lite too and love it.
Sudoku is great fun, But my favorite is Mario Kart; that’s a must have. New Super Mario Bros is really good too.

If you really enjoy Brain Age, you should also pick up Big Brain Academy. It’s about as entertaining as brain age, maybe even a little more fun. Also, a game called: “Trauma Center: Under the Knife”, is being re-released by the end of the month due to its popularity.

I do have to say that the Advanced Wars series of games is one of the most enjoyable franchises to be released on the Gameboy Advanced and DS. Advanced Wars: Dual Strike for the DS is definitly the best from the series and should be picked up ASAP. I’m hoping for at least one more Advanced Wars game that might incorporate some Wi-Fi capabilities. Online Mario Kart and Tetris are pretty damn sweet too.

Keith, I tried it last weekend and I’m in love with it. I played Mario Kart online and what I can say… it is just amazing, I was overlapped by a stranger from Japan (I live in Portugal) 😐

And then for those who played the first Mario Kart from Nintendo 32-bit aka Famicom, remember those ballons battle? Now in Mario Kart DS you guys can restore the ballons by blowing to the integrated microphone on the DS 😀

I’m wondering how the upcoming Nintendo WII will be.

  12. MarioKart is fun, especially in group play.

I usually keep death and destruction on my PC, xBox, & PSP … but I’ve been eyeing Metroid and a few other titles.
