O'Reilly Safari "Rough Cuts" offers books as they are being written.

I’ve been a O’Reilly Safari subscriber for a while. It’s great if you need a reference on something obscure in the middle of the night. I just got an email announcing their new service: Safari Rough Cuts. To quote part of the email:

Safari Books Online is pleased to announce the launch of the new Rough Cuts service. Rough Cuts gives you early access to content on cutting-edge technologies — before it’s published. It lets you literally read the book as it is being written.

When purchasing a Rough Cuts book, you gain access to an evolving manuscript that you can read on Safari, download as a PDF, or print. Once you’ve purchased a Rough Cuts title, you will also have a chance to shape the final product–you can send suggestions, bug fixes, and comments directly to the author and editors through the Notes feature in Safari.

A Rough Cuts title typically becomes available two to six months prior to a book’s publication. It is updated as the author and
technical reviewer progress, so users have access to new versions as they are created.

Fascinating. Not too many titles up there just yet, but should be interesting to see it in action.
