The 'Skip Intro' Podcast with Peter Elst, and now… me

Last December, Peter Elst began a podcast named Skip Intro. He managed to get out two episodes before life caught up with him. If you haven’t checked it out yet, listen to it here. It’s great stuff. Peter has this cool European accent that makes whatever he says sound really deep and intellectual – at least to uncultured Americans like myself. 😉

I’ve also been thinking of starting a podcast, but I could only see the same thing happening if I tried it alone. I’d probably manage to squeeze a few episodes out and then it would start sinking deep into the pile of “things to do”. I know myself. But still, the idea wouldn’t go away. I even went out and got a decent headset and mic and made some test recordings, but I couldn’t bring myself to start something I knew was doomed.

Then, a few weeks ago I saw that Peter was looking for a co-host for Skip Intro. I applied and got the job! Well, it wasn’t that formal. I’ve worked with Peter on writing projects (he was tech reviewer for Extending Flash MX 2004) and hung out at conferences, and we’ve conversed on line over the years, etc. So we were both pretty happy about doing a podcast together.

Peter’s going to be wrapping up some deadlines and travelling around for various conferences and other things over the next month or so, so I agreed to do most of the next couple of episodes. That should work out well. Just about the time I’m hitting the point where I’d probably quit on my own, he’ll be getting back into it and we’ll start to do some more interactive stuff.

The next episode is mostly all recorded and just needs to be put all together. Should have this done over the weekend and on the air by early next week. And then we plan to get another episode out after FiTC, and every couple of weeks or so after that. We’ll see how much we can really keep up the schedule, but it’s definitely got a better shot with two of us.

Oh, and as a bit of a teaser, the next episode features an interview with a bit of a Flash celebrity. \m/
