DS Lite – Pretty cool!

About a week ago I succumbed to my latest wave of TechnoLust and went out and bought a Nintendo DS Lite. With most things I buy in that state of mind, they are cool for a little while, maybe a few hours or a day or two, and then whatever. But I have to say that the DS has been holding my attention for a good eight days now. I stocked up on a good variety of games, Metroid, Brain Age, Burnout Ledgends, and Super Mario 64. This thing rocks! I can play Sudoku (Brain Age) standing up on the train, play the other games pretty much anywhere else. I just played my first wifi game of Metroid with some stranger who totally kicked my ass. Then I went on with Sam Robbins, and at least managed to kill him twice (he got me four times).

The graphics are unbelievable, and the DS Lite is known for its brightness, which is well deserved. I haven’t had a problem viewing it except in very bright summer sun. Battery life is awesome. It took a bit of fiddling with my home network settings to get the connection down just right, but no more than I’d expect for a device like that.

I’m really looking forward to the browser that is supposedly being made for it, and the tv tuner too (currently just Japanese “seg1” broadcasts. In the mean time, though, plenty of stuff to keep me entertained… not that I needed another distraction. 🙂
