Laptop Death

There I was, happily typing away in MS Word and my screen goes black. Power light still on, but no hard drive action. All the usual keyboard voodoo didn’t do anything, so I power down and power back up. Power light on, fan runs for five seconds and nothing.

There’s that sinking feeling you get in your stomach when you realize something really, REALLY bad is happening.

Yes, my little Toshiba laptop died tonight. One really great thing though, is how I came to get this particular laptop. My wife had bought one a year ago last December, and I liked it so much, I went out and bought the exact same model the next week. So we have the exact same computers. I was able to undo one screw on each and swap out the hard drives. This let me 1. verify that it wasn’t a hard drive problem and that all my data was still intact, and 2. copy what I needed only my Mac Mini. Whew!

So tomorrow at lunch, I take a trip to Best Buy with Toshi. Thank God for 2-year extended warranties.
