Plugin Switcher

I knew this program was out there, but didn’t think I had a need for it until today. Flash Plugin Switcher. It took me about a half an hour to dig up a link for it, and another half hour to download all the older Flash 6 players and set up the program. But it was quite an eye opener once I got it all set up.

Basically, you wind up with a list of installed player versions for both IE and Netscape/Mozilla. You just select which one you want to test, and hit “Install”. Of course, you need to close the browser before switching and restart it afterwards.

It was quite an eye opener. First, I’ve been preaching all along that v2 Components will work if you publish them as Flash 6 Player. Well, a simple test with a TextArea shows that it only works in 6.0.65.0 and later. Worse yet, my own components that I’ve been making don’t seem to work in any version of 6! Yikes! Back to the drawing board.
